All About Trello by Siobhan Niquette

Jul 12, 2020

Hi moms! My name is Siobhan (pronounced Shavon, but I respond to just about anything) and my husband and I live in central MA with our three kids and two dogs.

When we first moved back to Massachusetts in 2018, I was battling severe anxiety and depression. I was so hopeful that a fresh start closer to family would be the cure to what I called "overwhelm", that I joined a direct sales company the day after we moved in.

I had this vision of have a purpose and feeling fulfilled, and thought that gaining more financially would make that a reality.

What really happened was I just tossed another responsibility onto the pile. I was running this hamster wheel all day long, relying on caffeine and deadlines to get things done, but as the responsibilities would be tossed into my vision, it would smack me hard in the gut.

If you know that deep feeling in your gut when you have to just decide what to focus on for the minute, then this is for you.

Two years later, I'm a leader within my company, using Trello to keep everything business related (even writing this blog) organized. I've loved is so much, I've started helping my team and other small business owners organize their back office needs with Trello.

So, What is Trello?

This is probably the hardest question to answer.

Trello is an app that can help you organize just about anything. I came across a brief introduction to using Trello as a Content Relationship Manager (CRM) and immediately jumped all in.

Within a couple months, I found it was so much easier to manage my customers, follow up with them in a timely manner, and had less people falling through the cracks.

As I found how simple it was to organize and manage one of my most dreaded business tasks, I was ready to organize it all! And in turn, my business TOOK OFF!

Now, I can't imagine running my business without my Trello boards. I've found SO much success in organizing all of the things I need to do each day to keep me on track, even when I take an unscheduled day off.

Three Ways to Use Trello for Your Business

Here are three ways you can start using Trello to organize your business today and stop wasting time "procrasti-planning":

  1. Follow ups - As I said earlier, Trello was introduced to me as a CRM. I quickly learned how to adapt it so I could organize my customers in a way that made reaching out to them easy, relevant, and intentional. I was able to successfully build relationships, learning about people's interests (both related to my products and not), and staying front of mind without the cold messages. By knowing what my goal was with a customer, a host, and even a potential team member, I was more confident in reaching out and sharing what offers would most benefit them.

  2. Content creation and planning - I'm a Rebel Tendency, which, for those who don't follow Gretchen Rubin, means I only do the things that I really feel like doing. For example, writing content - if it's 6pm on Monday evening and I don't feel inspired to write anything for my large Facebook audience, I'll probably shrug my shoulders and move along. By having content prompts input to my Trello board, I can sit down when I'm feeling inspired and write a week's worth of content at a time. I can then organize it in a way that will fit my marketing strategy.

  3. Goal setting - All small business owners know the importance of setting goals, but sometimes we break down our goals into such small pieces that we lose track of a few of them. That's where Trello comes in - I took my big, scary goal I dream of achieving years down the road and broke it down into lots of small pieces. I can work on the pieces that I am ready for, as I see fit, and save the others for when my business (and mindset) are ready for them! (PRO TIP: With Trello, it's easy to copy and move tasks between boards - so something that starts on your Goal Setting Board can easily be moved to your To Do Board to keep it front of mind everyday!)

Whether you are a brand new small business owner looking to get started in an organized fashion, or a seasoned entrepreneur ready to free up a bit more of your daily time, Trello can help you do it! The free app and desktop site offer more than enough function to get you started, including TONS of blog posts for ways to enhance your use. Of course, you can upgrade for more features and functions, and even earn free months when you refer your friends!

I love using Trello to create more time freedom to live the entrepreneur life I've always dreamed of. My goal is to help other small business owners, new and seasoned, to do the same.
